Meet Barb Broadley

Barbara Broadley joined Gamma Alpha in 1980. She is a Past President ( 1984-1986 ) of Gamma Alpha. She has been Second Vice- President and chairperson of several committees.

Barb has been teaching in Livonia for the past twenty-five years. She taught eight years in elementary general education and seventeen years in the Resource Room. Currently Barb has returned to the classroom to Co-Teach so that many special education students may remain in the classroom and not be "pulled out".

Barb graduated from University of Michigan in 1970. She student taught in Livonia and remained to be part of the original group to be pink slipped, yet twenty-five years later she is still working! Barb earned her Masters from Eastern Michigan University in 1986 in Special Education. She has studied for other endorsements as well.

Barb and her husband, Ron, have been married thirty-four and a half years. They enjoy traveling and have had the opportunity recently to take cruises - Europe and Alaska. They also enjoy roughing it and have spent several windy summer trips off the coast of Maine. Currently, Barb and Ron are having discussions about where to go for their thirty-fifth anniversary. Ron wants to go skiing and Barb wants to take a Mediterranean cruise. We'll see how the discussion turns out when Barb brings her vacation souvenir next fall's silent auction.

Barb loves to cross country ski and has taught many students how to ski over the years. "It is fun when whole families have become interested and try it because of one child's enthusiasm," states Barbara.

"Delta Kappa Gamma has been fun and beneficial for me over the years. I have enjoyed meeting and knowing educators from more than just Livonia. Our chapter has been interesting because of the cross-district membership. I am so glad that Joan Lyon called me that night in 1980 with a `deal I could not refuse' - become a member in Gamma Alpha," states Barbara.
