Meet June Chartrand

June Chartrand is our featured Member of the Month for October. She was introduced to Delta Kappa Gamma by Esther Loskowske and Sandy Becher who helped her to become interested in the activities of the organization. June was initiated on May 24, 1989, with Sandy Becher as her sponsor.

During her years of membership, June has served as Music Chairman, has assisted in committee work and planning, and has attended convention and workshop activities. She continues to be active in Gamma Alpha work locally when she is in residence- and also active in Alpha Xi Chapter of Omicron State (Arizona) in the winter months.

June graduated from the Indiana University of Music with a B.M.E. degree in 1955, and received her M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan in 1959. She has taught vocal and instrumental music at various times in kindergarten through ninth grade in Muskegon Heights, South Redford, and Wayne-Westland, retiring in 1991 from Wayne-Westland with 36 years of experience.

Since that time, she and Bob, her husband of forty years, have been living seasonally in their condo/home in Sun City, Arizona. Recently they sold their Westland home of 36 years and now rent an apartment in Westland which they plan to occupy for their summers in Michigan. They have one son, Eric, and auto design engineer living in Westland, as well.

June and Bob have been active members of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Plymouth for many years, serving as ushers, readers, and coordinators of parish activities. During their working years, they pursued summer travel throughout the United States. They have also made numerous trips to England, as well as visiting the European Continent, the former Soviet Union, and South Africa. Reportedly, a winter trip to Australia and New Zealand is being planned for the future.

Of her association with Delta Kappa Gamma, June says, "I continue to be delighted with the sisterhood of our Gamma Alpha members, and I am truly pleased and proud to be a member of this active and worthwhile organization."
