Meet Nancy Bielik

Nancy Bielik is January's M.O.M. Nancy has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International since being initiated into the Gamma Alpha chapter in May 1987. "I first experienced the friendliness and enthusiasm of my Gamma Alpha sisters when we attended the State Convention on Mackinac Island in May 1987. I knew then that I was going to enjoy belonging!"

Nancy became a participating member immediately after joining Gamma Alpha by joining committees and working with experienced members on projects such as the Seminar and Fashion Show. While chairman of Personal Growth and Services, the committee was instrumental in beginning Gamma Alpha's affiliation with the Wayne County Family Center by supplying school supplies and totes for the children in the center. Nancy also served as Recording Secretary for the biennium 1988-1990.

Although she has moved from Westland after retiring from the Wayne-Westland School District in 1991, she remains active by serving as the Legislation chairman. "It has been really interesting (and frustrating) tracking all the changes in educational policy and legislation." Nancy has submitted a Legislative Report this month for the newsletter and has scheduled Eileen DeHart for our March meeting. Nancy is busy for a retired lady. Since retiring, Nancy and her husband, Gene, have spent cold weather time in their travel trailer in warmer parts: Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Georgia, Louisiana, and in a beach front condo in Alabama. "I keep telling June Chartrand that we're coming to Arizona, but we haven't made it yet!" During the summer months in Michigan, Nancy and Gene enjoy camping with their granddaughters, Sharon and Rachel.

"Retirement is great after 34 years of teaching," says Nancy. "Gamma Alpha helps me keep in touch with old friends and educational issues."
