MEET OUR MEMBER

Joan Lyon is a charter member (1979) of Gamma Alpha. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University and a Master's Degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Delta Kappa Gamma has afforded many opportunities to Joan. She was the second Gamma Alpha President and has served on many chapter committees throughout the years. Joanie had also had the opportunity to serve on two state committees; Communication Committee with Marcia Scarr and the Research Committee where she was chairman. She enjoys attending Alpha Iota State Conventions. She traveled to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for the Seminar in Purposeful Living with Paula Dent, Lois Holland, and Eileen Rodak before the International Convention in Indianapolis.

Joan has a wonderful family. She and her husband Phil have three daughters, three son-in-laws and seven beautiful grandchildren.

Joan enjoys reading, traveling, singing in her church choir, playing bridge, eating out (and in), people, golf, gardening, shopping, basketry, swimming, and playing with kids and grandchildren.

She loved teaching elementary grades 2-5 in Livonia Public Schools at Cleveland, Marshall, and Coolidge Schools. She retired in 1991.

Since retiring, she and Phil have continued traveling to Europe, Alaska, Scandinavia, the British Isles and Hawaii. They have cruised in the Eastern and Western Caribbean for the past four winters during their Florida vacations. They have also traveled a good deal in the U.S.

I have appreciated the opportunities and friendships that Delta Kappa Gamma has afforded me. I have enjoyed meeting new friends at the State level and treasure the close relationships with my own Gamma Alpha sisters. It has been rewarding to watch our chapter evolve and I look forward to our continued success.
