DELTA KAPPA GAMMA
COMMITTEES
While surfing the Society’s web-site, I found a blurb about committee responsibilities. Since we will be signing up for new committees at our Birthday Dinner in April, a quick review of the committee responsibilities seems appropriate.
The Music Committee encourages chapters to use music to emphasize program themes and to heighten congeniality and enjoyment. The Music Chairman’s responsibilities are:
- Include music as a part of all state and chapter meetings.
- Incorporate music with each topic in the Program Manual so that music is an integral part of each chapter program.
- Purchase and explore Song Book VI for music suitable to different types of programs, ranging from ceremonial to fun and fellowship.
The Personal Growth and Services Committee encourages chapters to:
- Emphasize leadership by mentoring and networking as well as by attending Delta Kappa Gamma regional conferences, state and international conventions and workshops and seminars.
- Foster literacy through volunteerism and chapter projects.
- Volunteer time and energy to meet and confer with legislators and to work for educational issues.
- Engage in learning activities and workshops that contribute to personal enjoyment and professional growth.
The Professional Affairs Committee encourages chapters to:
- Promote leadership by encouraging members to acquire skills through professional growth opportunities like the Leadership/ Management Seminars at state and international levels.
- Emphasize classroom approaches that will promote basic life skills- global/ cultural and community/ environmental literacy.
- Engage in legislative activities to advance educational issues and to further citizenship and its attending responsibilities among students.
- Foster learning by encouraging members to seek scholarships and to prepare academically for specific professional positions.
The Research Committee encourages chapters to:
- Know the leadership opportunities available to women and the statistics concerning women in leadership positions.
- Encourage reading opportunities and numerical skill development among members and be knowledgeable about literacy statistics throughout the world.
- Research representation of women in official and legislative positions, on boards and in professional offices.
- Engage in research studies and writing to disseminate learning.
