Announcements:
State News
- The State organization is hiring a consultant to design and set up a State web-site. Thus far only two states (AZ and Utah) have state web-sites. (FYI if we want to have our web-site added as a "link" to the Society’s or State’s web-sites, it would cost Gamma Alpha roughly $36 a year, plus a one-time set-up fee of $15. Ian would have to make some minor changes to our current sight, if we decide to do this. I don’t think enough of our members use the internet yet for us to pay the fee at this time.)
Treasurer’s Report:
Jackie reports the following as of January 6, 1999 (Grace is in Florida)
- Checking account - $3,199.98
- Savings account - $5,923.59
The Auction raised… $1145
50/50 raffle raised… $86
Bavarian Inn raffle raised… $170
Grand total… $1401
for the Grant-in-Aid fund
Corresponding Secretary’s Report:
- Cindy read a note from Grace Morgan. She is still at Abby Roche’s in Florida and is not sure how long she will be there.
- A letter from Simonne Grzesik requesting to be reinstated was read.
- Wayne County Family Center thanked us for the donation of literature. Letter is included in the Service Projects report.
Committee Reports:
- Research and Professional Affairs – The auction was successful. We had 39 members and guests present. Everyone seemed to spend a lot of money and have a good time.
- Personal Growth and Development – The committee worked on the skit for the March meeting. Practice for the skit will be before the February meeting (4:30).
- Legislation - Gail McKnight will be rescheduled for fall.
- Music - No report
- Service Projects - Report is in the newsletter.
- Birthday Dinner - No report. Since this is Gamma Alpha’s 20th year, we know it will be special.
Society Business:
International Goal
- Gain 10% new members
- Retain 95% current members
- Reclaim 10% former members
Recommendation for Membership forms are in the newsletter.
- Nominations - This is not an election year, but we should all be thinking about what office we would be willing to fill during the 2000-2002 biennium.
Communications:
Yearbook – A suggestion was made for Colleen to update the committee list since there are errors in the Yearbook. Also, in next fall’s Yearbook, a note should be included in the fan-out to let members know that if either Livonia or Wayne-Westland (our largest districts) are closed because of the weather, any meeting scheduled for that day will also be cancelled.
- Newsletter – Members who have not been featured should send Cindy their copy and photos.
- Empathy – Let Candy know if there are members in need of her committee’s services.
Historian – Keep those photos coming in for Mary Jo to sort through.
Educational Services:
World Fellowship - There will be no auction at the state convention. There will only be a raffle. Donations from chapters will be accepted. The Board recommends that we do not make a donation since we send the state many donations.
- Scholarship - Applications are in the newsletter for the Grant-in-Aid fund.
Ad Hoc Committees:
- Seminar 2000 - March 2000 is the date they are thinking about. Some topics under consideration are: holistic doctors and medicines, social services for aging parents, and hormone replacement.
- Library – The committee hasn’t met, but Nancy suggested we ask the high school librarians for acceptable titles of women’s biographies and purchase the books.
Adjourned at 5:40 p.m.
Respectively submitted,
Carol Holland, Recording Secretary
